Stone Create recently gave a presentation using the theme of ‘Communication’.
Everyone was given a number and then 2 numbers were drawn at random.
The two people whose numbers were picked out had to sit back to back. One was the describer and one the illustrator.
The describer had to pick another piece of paper which had an object on it which they had to describe to the other person, BUT they could only use shapes and lines as reference points.
Would the illustrator understand their instructions? Did they communicate effectively?
The results were surprising and it was interesting to understand that people don’t always hear what you want them to.
Communication is key as Sydney J. Harris, the American journalist, pointed out,
“The two words ‘information’ and ‘communication’ are often used interchangeably, but they signify quite different things. Information is giving out; communication is getting through”
Listening and actually ‘hearing’ what your client desires in business is a great skill.
