Lancashire Fire and Rescue

Project

The company

Lancashire Fire and Rescue work hard to keep Lancashire safe, from chemical spills to house fires, to road traffic collisions and rescuing trapped animals with their team of well trained professional staff and the best possible equipment.

The brief

Lancashire Fire and Rescue required an update to their existing website to create a more accessible platform, the focus being to provide the general public with important updates and information, especially on the incident that are occurring across Lancashire.

Creating an accessible website

From the initial meeting with Lancashire Fire and Rescue, it was clear we needed to pay an important amount of consideration to the accessibility side of the website.

We made sure that we designed and built the website to conform with W3AG standards for those individuals who are visually impaired.

Another main focus was the Information Hub. Getting this section right on the website was imperative. It was a page for all events, incidents, news and videos to be posted to make the public aware of what was happening in Lancashire. This hub could be filtered by ‘category’, ‘station’, or by both at the same time.

Interactive map

The existing site included a map which contained information on all of Lancashire’s Fire Stations. This was a single image, was hard to read and had zero interactivity.

We streamlined the information, de-cluttered the map, updated the design and included click through profile pages for each of the Fire Stations, with relevant and important information within each page.
